Located
in the middle of 8 acres of gardens in the very heart of Delhi, the Imperial
hotel built in 1933, is an unexpected treat. It is a hotel with a rich
history and old-world British Raj charm. It was through these corridors that
the Viceroy and his Vicereine swept down with their retinues to grace a
glittering soiree. The large public rooms are where writers and poets
engaged in conversations. And, in what is now a restaurant, the dauntless
Jawaharlal Nehru met with other firebrands from the Indian Freedom Movement
to plan the last days of the British Raj.
